Veterans Day in North Texas is more than a date on the calendar — it’s a day of gratitude, remembrance, and reflection. Across the Dallas–Fort Worth area, families gather to honor those who’ve served our nation with courage and conviction.
At Rohr Balloons, this day carries special meaning. Our company’s story began with a veteran — Chuck Rohr, a proud member of the U.S. Air Force 101st Airborne Division, whose commitment to service inspired not only a lifelong passion for aviation, but the very heart of who we are today.

A Legacy of Service: From the Air Force to the Skies
Before Rohr Balloons ever took flight, Chuck Rohr served his country with distinction in the Korean War. His time in the Air Force and with the 101st Airborne Division taught him precision, integrity, and an unwavering respect for the skies. Those same values became the foundation for everything that would follow.
After his military service, Chuck pursued his love of flight — not through jets or helicopters, but through something quieter, more poetic: hot air balloons. He believed that flying wasn’t just about seeing the world from above — it was about feeling connected to it.
In the 1970s, Chuck founded Rohr Balloons in Florida, where his reputation for safety and skill quickly took off. His dedication to creating meaningful, memorable flight experiences helped grow a loyal following of passengers who came not just for the adventure, but for the sense of peace and perspective that only ballooning can bring.
Today, his son Brian Rohr carries that legacy forward here in North Texas, sharing the same love for flight and the same respect for those who’ve served. Additionally, Chuck’s grandson, Bryson, shares a birthday with Veterans Day — a meaningful coincidence that keeps the spirit of service close to the Rohr family’s heart. Every balloon that lifts off the ground is a tribute — to veterans, to service, and to Chuck’s pioneering vision.

Continuing the Mission
Every year around Veterans Day, Rohr Balloons welcomes veterans and their families to experience something truly unique — a quiet, reflective moment above the rolling fields of McKinney and the surrounding areas.
For many veterans, a flight isn’t just an adventure. It’s a moment to breathe, to look out over the landscape they helped protect, and to experience the serenity that comes from floating free.
“It was quiet, peaceful, and humbling — floating above the fields, I felt both free and grateful.”
— U.S. Army Veteran
“Brian made our ride unforgettable. We felt safe, inspired, and like we were part of something bigger.”
— Veteran’s Family
These are the moments that move us. They remind us that while Veterans Day lasts one day, gratitude should last all year long.
Continuing Chuck Rohr’s Legacy
Chuck Rohr’s influence reaches far beyond the balloon basket. His Air Force discipline shaped the culture of safety and excellence that defines Rohr Balloons today. His humility shaped our gratitude toward those who’ve served.
Chuck believed that flight connects people — that when we rise above the noise of everyday life, we see not just landscapes, but possibilities.
As his son Brian continues the family tradition here in North Texas, every launch carries that same sense of purpose. Each ascent honors the man who built this company and the veterans whose bravery allows us all to soar freely.
